India remained true to their favourites tag as they completed a clean sweep of 3-0 against Sri Lanka at their home. This was the first time that India whitewashed a side in an away Test series of minimum of 3 matches and with this India became the first Asian nation to do so. India achieved this feat by defeating the hosts by an innings and 171 runs at Pallekele.

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged Player of the Tournament for his two centuries. For India, Hardik Pandya was the find of the series. Having made his mark in the shorter formats of the game, he debuted in the first Test and by the end of the third Test, he had a Test century and a Man of the Match in the final match to his name. He also entered the record books by hitting the most number of runs (26) in a single over by an Indian batsman.

Each of the departments clicked for India with all the batsmen scoring and bowlers picking wickets at crucial junctures. The all-rounder trio of Ashwin, Jadeja and Pandya was its best by contributing in both the departments.

This series comes as an alarm bell for the Sri Lanka Cricket as they were no match to their Asian opponents. With lack of experience in their line-up reflected in their performance. Their case was not helped by injuries to their key players like Herath, Gunaratne, and Lakmal.
