Though they might have lost the match, but still won the a billion hearts. Yes, you guessed it right. I am talking of the Indian Women' Cricket Team. The entire nation was waiting for this moment for nearly a decade now with our Women's Team lifting their maiden World Cup at the Mecca of Cricket, the Lords Cricket Ground Stadium. But, the fate had its own way and we fell short by mere 9 runs in making history. Before the World Cup began, no-one had a clue that our Women-In-Blue would be able to create such a deep impact on the hearts and change the mindset of this nation.
In a country like India people have developed this mindset that the Women's Team can't compete with their Men counterpart. But after Sunday's final, this Women' Team have proved their mettle and boldly closed the blabbering mouths of their critics. The journey to this final wasn't that easy. Led by one of the finest batswoman, Mithali Raj, this Indian Team defeated the toughest team, Team Australia in the Semifinals. The heroics for this match came from Harmanpreet Kaur who scored a brilliant 171* from just 115 balls and guiding Indian Team to their second final appearance. In the league round, India faced defeat from the same Australian Team, but they came back strongly and took the sweet revenge and knocked-off the Champion side from the race. In the league stage against Pakistan, they were bowled out for mere 169, but with an excellent performance from the left-arm spinner, Ekta Bisht they bundled-out Pakistan for just 74, with Ekta Bisht taking a 5-wicket haul.
The Indian skipper also achieved a major feat during her innings of 69 against the Aussies, to become the leading run-scorer for the game in limited overs fixtures.
The entire nation was on their toes for the Sunday's final. The Cricket Pandit's even said that this final would have the same impact on the minds of the people, as the World Cup victory had in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. The Women' Team has gained mass support and appraises from the entire cricketing world and across the globe as well.
Lastly, ladies though you might have lost the match, but you have won our hearts and anchored your position as equal as your Men' team. Keep up the good work and the entire nation is proud of you!!
Jai Hind..
