Friendship - The Most Underrated Blessing

In this modern era of cut throat competition, people are seen vying for success in terms of money and fame in whatever way they can. However, this often leads them to being so focussed that at some point in their lives they lose what should matter to them the most - their old friends. I say what's the point of having it all if you do not have the few people you'd love to enjoy it with?
We are all familiar with the phrase "A friend in need is a friend indeed". Many of us have actually faced dire times and tedious tasks, the burden of seemingly unachievable goals threatening to bog us down and depress us. That is the time when you have a choice. To quit or to strive, to become a slave to hardships or slay the difficulties and conquer the challenges.
At such times, there are a few bunch of people who you turn to. The people that make you laugh a little louder, smile a little wider and live a little better. The people you have a mutual affection towards. Some call them friends, some call them besties. Me? I call them lifesavers.
A true friend is someone who can see the sorrow through your eyes even when you’re laughing. If you find a true friend, you've practically found a new family member. The only difference being he won’t have the same blood flowing through his veins. But if you see carefully, you’ll realize that having one true friend can make up for one whole family, because a true friend is one who scolds like a dad, loves like a mom, irritates like a brother, teases like a sister and loves you more than a lover. Unfortunately, friendships that last lifelong have now-a-days become more of an anomaly. Most friendships are usually victims to misunderstandings, while others a result of mismanaged priorities. People fail to realize that the fruit of success tastes sweet only when you have the ones that stuck around with you, enjoying the taste alongside you. Often money and power entice people at the early stages of their careers, and while it isn't wrong to follow your dreams, it's almost criminal to leave behind the people that stood by you when you were struggling through worse times. I for one simply cannot fathom abandoning the people that held my hands while I faced hell, and honestly neither should you. Remember in the end, they won't remember the words of their enemies but the silence of their friends.
The bonds of friendship can withstand even the longest of distances, be unaffected by even the lengthiest of times. No matter what decade or century we move forward to, a true friend will always be there for you. We need to latch onto such people, trust that they’ll forever want what’s best for us. It’s nice to remind them of how important they are every once in a while. To all my friends out there, know that no matter where I am or what I’m doing, I support and trust you. I may not be there with you, but I’ll always be there for you.
