The Offended Republic

As I write this article, I am on a verbal debate with a friend of mine who got offended when I passed a sly remark on our Honorable Prime Minister and his shenanigans.... Now I don’t know if I was right or not in saying what I said, but I am sure as hell that I wasn’t “offensive”.
Anyhow, this is not the first time I’m facing such a hostile debate where my family values and my love for my country has been questioned and I can say it with utmost surety that it is definitely not the last as well.
The big question that lies underneath is that why are we so gullible? Why does it happen that when someone’s opinions do not match ours, we are irritated, we are agitated, we are OFFENDED....
As a self proclaimed funny man, I am habitual to make jokes on almost everything I come across. Needless to say, I’ve often been told that my jokes are tasteless and downright disgusting. However, when I am the target of the same jokes, they suddenly turn out to be the funniest jokes on mother earth and result in sudden appraisal of my comic skills... Hypocrisy much???
Further, talking on a large scale, we often come across numerous FIRs being filed on performers just because that a particular person (maybe the wisest man in the world!) was offended by the sheer courage of the performer to have an opinion of his own and moreover having the courage to share his (or her, NO OFFENCE ladies!) opinion in front of an audience.....
I am an individual. Of course, my views on the things around me would be different than that of yours (Even the constitution agrees with me!). While you have every right in the world to correct me and make me realise my folly (which i probably wouldn’t!) but you definitely have no right to be offended... I repeat YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE OFFENDED!!
Lastly, if you really want to take offense, take it on things which are offensive.... Take offense on rape rather than rape jokes.... Take offense on bad governance rather than jokes on the government and take offense on the bad state of the country rather than the remarks which probably highlight the same (But in a sure shot humorous way!)... As far as someone’s opinions go.... Just let it be.... Why increase your blood pressure needlessly?
So sit back and relax... And in case you were offended by my article then my friend, I am sorry for wasting my time... But not my words
