(This poem was written when I had completed my 19 years of existence on this earth, 22.03.2014)
The day I turned nineteen
Was the last year of being called a teen.
School life has come to an end
Will meet friends, once in a weekend.
Now, I have to get into a college,
Study and work hard, to get a good package.
I’ll labor day and night
To have a future, that’s too bright.
I’ll be away from home for nearly four years
Will have to control my tears.
Would miss Mumma’ lullaby
As the days would go by.
I would miss my childhood days
When I would simply play, play and play.
Life takes a sudden turn
And once crossed, you can never return.
At times, I got angry
But immediately apologized and said “SORRY”.
In life, whenever I ‘fell’
My parents said, “You can do well”.
I’ve gone through many ups and downs
With a couple of nearly drowns.
Life is full of challenges
To face them, you need to be courageous.
One day, God gave me a companion
It was my parent’s second son.
That was the birth of my sweet brother
He’s light and soft as a feather.
Sometimes, we had a fight
We knew that wasn’t right.
To see his happy face
I can sing and even dance.
It’s time to enjoy the day,
After all, it’s my nineteenth birthday!
