Have anyone ever wondered why any Tom, Dick or Harry in India wants get to the 3rd most populous city of Rajasthan: ‘KOTA’ to get torn into pieces. Basically what I’m trying to say or ask why do the Indian youth want to spend their precious teenage or the so called ‘bhari jawani ke din’ in the mecca to hell, ‘KOTA’. Nowadays I think it has become a trend amongst the Indian youth to go to Kota in 11th, 12th and then take a drop to prepare well for the famous JEE Mains. They have only one goal: ‘to crack these exams and get into the prestigious IITs and the NITs’. What the hell!!! I mean lakhs of kids hope to secure a seat in 23 institutes which in total have only 11,032 seats. In 2015 over 1,300,000 candidates appeared for JEE Mains in which only 28,000 students got secured their position 68 centrally funded institutes which consisted of IITs, NITs and IIITs. As I said earlier it is not an easy job to land an ass at these above mentioned institutes. You may have been wondering why the hell have I wrote this thing in such a weird way. It’s because I want do not want to write, I want to convey it in an unorthodox manner. Anyway what I think is that there is a sense of fear among the Indian parents that their kid would be throw away in the race of life. It’s not their fault nor is the fault in our stars. These days it has been noticed that any parent likes to see his/her child in a successful position and in a better one than other’s child. This mind set can due to envy, feeling of jealousness or any other reason. What they don’t understand is that Kota is the not the only pathway to success. They still not understand that not every child in Kota is able to secure good marks in their Mains. In 2012 it was found that the admission rate was 10,000 in 660,000 that is only 0.015%. But still parents want to send their kid to Kota. Another reason could be the India education system. The Indian education system tries to display itself as one of the best but the reality is that it values marks over knowledge.
From my own personal experience, I can say that it has never tried to sculpt another Aryabhatha and any paragon of knowledge. What it creates every year are cramming robots. Basically our education system is like a Dali’s masterpiece. It looks great to the eye but in reality it is just a piece of steel. The system promises many things, but in the end they throw kids into a black hole of self-destruction. The fear is created in the minds of parents at the time of their child’s birth itself that what about his future. And it is a fact that the major investment of a parent is in its child education. Now let’s talk about the coaching industry which is blooming at a rapid pace and which has become a Rs.300 crore industry. These coaching institutes gets flooded every year by the kids that migrate to Kota. These institutes encourage kids and their parents to enrol, guarantying admissions in premier institutes. What people do not understand is that there is scope of Mains coaching in other cities to. I mean why only Kota. Why can’t the govt. break this jinx? In the end I would conclude that as this is India and no one can change us and thus this would go on forever…... By the way I’m not the Kota boy.
