It was just another New Year’s Eve for the entire nation. Everyone was waiting for Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister’s speech that was to be delivered at 19:30 Hours. Barely a few hours to welcome the New Year and people had started shifting their gears towards party mode. But as the final evening of 2016 settled in, the nation was shocked by an horrifying news. The news had come from the IT capital of the nation, Bengaluru. The news of Mass Molestation of women had taken place at one of the prominent landmarks of the city, The MG Road. Barely 100 men, who were mostly drunk molested, abused women who were present at the MG Road. These men were on a mad spree and carried out this act without thinking the consequence what it would have. The helpless women were screaming for help, but the police that was present in good numbers (nearly 1500) acted as the mannequins. The police who are considered to be the ‘friends’ of the citizens, didn’t help or even tried to protect the dignity of these women. Women were molested, abused, and all the kinds of beyond imagination things occurred on that dreadful night. This news spread like a wild fire across the nation. No one had ever thought that any such kind of crime would and that too on such a large scale. The number of cases against women are rising everyday and with such incidences, there is a sense of insecurity and fear among women. They fear to step-out of their homes after the sun has gone down. But the main question that arises, what is the so-called motivating factor behind these acts? Is it the lack of education that is given to our boys?? Or is it the mind-set that is stuck in our minds?? We need to stop such crimes against women and its the time that we teach the ’illiterate’ society on how to respect a women. Women play an important role in one’s life at every stage. Women take several roles such as mother, sister, wife, daughter and many more. When such crimes arise, the criminals forget that they also have a mother, daughter.. What if the same shameful incident took place at their side?
Respecting women doesn’t make you small, rather it raises your stature.
